Then Came You (Animal Magnetism #5) by Jill Shalvis
Released: July 1, 2014
Veterinary intern Emily can’t believe she wound up in the small town of Sunshine, Idaho, instead of the Los Angeles clinic she had always imagined. Now she has to put her plans to move to L.A. on hold for a whole year while she fulfills the obligation of her vet school scholarship.
Then Wyatt, her gorgeous one-night stand from a Reno vet conference, introduces himself as her new boss. And Emily is just as drawn to his seductive looks and quiet strength as she was on that very steamy night. She soon learns that Wyatt isn’t just a laid-back doctor, but a delicious alpha male tempting her away from her carefully laid-out plans…
Review: 4 Stars
Jill Shalvis is one of my go-to authors, so I am not surprised I enjoyed Then Came You. The fifth book in the Animal Magnetism series continues with the fantastic tradition Mrs. Shalvis developed of combining sweet (and sexy) guys and animals. Then Came You can be read as a standalone, but I highly recommend reading the previous books since many characters make frequent appearances throughout.
Wyatt…sigh. I have a weakness for heroes with glasses. Heck, every guy I have ever dated wore them. Even without the glasses, Wyatt is a total heartthrob. He is intelligent, considerate, and kind. His relationship with his sisters confirms his soft side, although they do bicker.
Emily is neurotic in an endearing way. She has had to be the breadwinner for much of her life and the responsibility weighs her down. My only annoyance with Then Came You was due to Emily and inability to deviate from “the plan”. There were moments where I wanted to scream at her to open her eyes.
The secondary characters definitely left an impression. I enjoyed the dynamics between all of the siblings within the families and felt Mrs. Shalvis was able to capture the love/hate relationship most siblings have. I adored the cringe inducing moments, mainly because I have been the embarrassed party before and those feelings were right on. I cannot wait to see what will come in the future for Wyatt’s sisters.
Overall, the plot was interesting and kept a steady pace. My attention never strayed and I wound up finishing the book in one sitting. There was small mystery within the story that broke my heart. Honestly, I gave my pup a good cuddle after a certain scene. The romance had the perfect amount of sizzle, swoon, and frustration. Then Came You is a great addition to the Animal Magnetism series!
